12 Hour Hat Making Class

Learn all of the millinery techniques needed to design and make a Couture Hat in either straw or felt.

Learn how to:

  • Block the brim using 0.26 x 0.65 steel pins.
  • Block the crown using 0.26 x 0.65 steel pins.
  • Straighten wire.
  • Sew wire onto the brim.
  • Finish the edge of the brim.
  • Sew in a petersham ribbon and take the correct head measurement.
  • Sew the crown to the brim.
  • Design and make a trim for a straw or felt hat.
  • Use a hat stretcher to finish your hat.


About the class:


  • Tea and coffee available.
  • Students may bring a lunch or snack with them to every lesson.
  • Use of all blocks, cottons, needles, pins and stiffeners are included in the price.
    Bring your own notebook, scissors, thimble, apron.

  • Classes are ongoing and can be joined at any time.
  • No previous sewing skills required.
  • Classes are taught in small groups, 3 to 4 students maximum per class.
  • Classes are taught in a relaxed atmosphere and students will work at their own pace.
